A domain name is a human friendly address for a website. It’s what people type into their web browser to visit a website. Depending on the purpose of your website, you may not need to purchase a domain name.
If you are hosting an e-commerce site on Shopify or a blog on Wordpress, you are given a unique subdomain by the service provider that your customer or reader can use to visit your site.
In my experience, quite a few people purchase domains on their own using other services. In those cases, I have found that often times people often make the same mistakes. If you are purchasing a domain name for yourself I would advise: Enable privacy. If you do not whatever information you put in for the Administrative Contact is publicly accessible at sites like https://who.is For some domain, privacy is on by default and you should not be charged extra. For example .ca domains The really popular places people buy domains from will try and upsell you every step of the way. I would recommend using another provider even if the other provider is a few dollars more.
Do not commit to hosting at the same time you are buying the domain. It's probably too early know where you want the site to be hosted or what you will need to run the site.
Domain name registration - $25
